Areas to walk around Stirling
Loch Katrine
A visit to this very picturesque loch set amongst beautiful mountains makes an ideal day out. You can take a relaxing trip on the 100 year old steam boat the SS Sir Walter Scott, or if you are feeling more adventurous you can cycle around the loch.
Lake of Menteith
Visit the only lake in Scotland and take a short boat trip to the largest of the lake's three islands where you can visit the ruins of a 13th centry Augustinian monastery Inchmahome Priory. This 700 acre lake boasts arguably the finest rainbow trout fishing in Scotland, and is an ideal location for a picnic. Some days you can even see an osprey catching fish in the lake.
Abbey Craig Walk
From the foot of the Wallace Monument, The Abbey Trail can be followed. This walk will take you to the panoramic viewpoint over the City of Stirling. From here, a beautiful walk can be taken around the woodlands of The Abbey Craig, stopping off at the Ochils Viewpoint before rejoining the pathway back to the Visitor Reception Centre. Allow 45 minutes for The Abbey Trail. All of the paths have been upgraded and provide a good walking surface. The main paths and trails have a hard covering of loose stone. They are wide, but can be steep in places.
